Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI) is a government agency under the Ministry of Agriculture. This organization started in 1961 under the name 'Soil Survey Project of Pakistan'.After the development of independent Bangladesh, in 1972 under the Ministry of Agriculture, the institution came to be known as 'Soil Survey Department' and later in 1983, after reorganizing and expanding the 'Soil Survey Department', the activities of the institution are being conducted under the name of Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI).In 1979 the activities of Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI) Bogra District Office started.Regional laboratory was established in 2002 with the aim of speeding up the soil research activities of Bogra region including analysis of soil samples of farmers, agricultural workers and agriculture related institutions.Also, since 2008, there is a mobile soil testing laboratory (Mobile Soil Testing Laboratory-MSTL) called 'Karatwa' with the aim of recommending a balanced amount of fertilizer based on the results of chemical analysis of farmers' soil samples at the field level.At present, the Soil Resource Development Institute office is located on an acre of land in front of Zia Medical, Lihimpur, on the eastern side of the Bogra-Dhaka highway at 24.49 degrees north latitude and 89.21 degrees east longitude.
